Tally up Food $$$

This has been in no way the cheapest diet ever... protein is pretty much the most expensive thing you can buy (Food Inc... but that's a whole other blog). Because I'm not eating processed corn products that are like 3 for $1, I can say this has put a pretty dent in the bank account. I was curious just how much so... so I decided to do a tally of the bulk of it.

Procuitto:

My go to snack with a little goat cheese and sugar free apricot jelly (yes, they actually make that)

Total: $ 30

Eggs:

5 dozen eggs, bought them at Costco so I got them for like $6 for an entire flat.

Total: $6

Johnsonville Sausages:

Total: $15

Peanutbutter (2 huge containers from Costco)

Total: $12

Chipotle:

My Knight and shinning armor. This has saved me on those days when I forgot my lunches and/or too busy to make dinner.

Total: $122.50

Starbucks:

Skinny vanilla latte, totally within the diet guidelines and you better believe I'm taking advantage of that! (Thank you Stephanie!) Also, this isn't my actual total, because my cousin works for Starbucks so about 1/2 of my transactions are put on her account (since she gets a free coffee she doesn't drink) So you could pretty much multiply this by x2 to get my actual total!

Total: $79.53 (yikes!)

Estimated Total: $265.03

ALMOST DONE!

I'm only 3 days away from completing my 4 week challenge and I've learned a lot about myself and my body.

Everyone is very different, everyone reacts differently to food. My body reacts very poorly to carbohydrates and for the life of me thinks the zombie apocalypse is coming so it stores every single calorie for me (thanks, but no thanks). However, my body LOVES and craves cardio. I'm O-, and research suggests that my blood type does very well with extreme cardio. I can attest to this. From Monday until today I've run 2 miles everyday. I haven't been able to run since I injured my back a few months ago but since I've been running again, I sleep more thoroughly at night, I wake up before my alarm (need less sleep) and have more energy throughout the day. I'm much more focused which is exactly what I need with school and work being so hectic!

Like I said though, everyone is different. Some people can loose weight with light cardio, or can eat whatever they want and never have a problem (like my little sister who inherited my dads genes and is selfish and didn't share her retarded fast metabolim, thanks Amanda!) I digress... knowing your body and what can make/break it is the key to being successful.

Happy Weight loss and happy future of healthy living!

Into week 4

Well, this is the second day of week 4 and to be honest I have no time! No time to blog, no time to even eat... I've been very very bad :(

However I have hit a new Milestone: I started running 2 miles a day (started Monday, so I'm 4 miles in). My body is pretty sore and I'm honestly surprised I've been able to find the energy to run sprints on NO carbs. I guess my body has really gotten use to it. Southbeach was never really designed for cardio or excersice, but I'm trying to give my weightloss a kick in the pants.

Next Tuesday morning is my weigh in. I don't have headaches really anymore, and I pretty much don't go anywhere without some peanut butter. I haven't been eating or drinking H20 as much as I need to and I know I need to. Between school, work, running errands, trying to excersice, and sleep every once in awhile, eating has become a chore. Eating is essential to loosing weight. Any personal trainer will tell you the more you eat the more (and faster) you'll loose. As long as it's the right food... it keeps your metabolism going, which burns calories even while you're sitting.

My goal moving forward after my weigh in is to have an excellent weekend with family, and then jump into a high protein diet during the week with 5 day workouts and then allowing a cheat meal on the weekends. I know I still have a bit to go even after 4 weeks. I also got Insanity, so I may give that a shot.

The once concern I have regarding my weigh in is that it's just a number... it doesn't show how much I lost fat wise or muscle wise. I feel like I've lost a lot of muscle, which isn't helpful. And since muscle weighs more than fat, I'm worried the scale may say I lost a lot (which is cool for my mental confidence) even though I may not have lost it all in fat. So I'm working to gain that back and loose the fat with my new approach.

2 Weeks and Counting (and 7 dozen homeade chocolate chip cookies later)

So I offered to bake my office my famous homemade chocolate chip cookies, that was of course, before I knew I was taking my mom and boyfriend to BJs sports bar for dinner earlier in the evening. For those of you who know BJ's you know they're famous for their "Pizzokies", skillet baked cookies with a heaping scoop of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce. I however was very good! No cheating at all. For dinner I ordered a few of their small plate items since BJs is known for their carb and fried overloaded food.

1 Sashimi Tuna
1 Mozzarella and Tomato Capressi salad
1 Meatball (6-8 meatballs in marinara sauce with melted cheese)
4 Tall glasses of ice water

When the dessert of brownie pizzokie came by I didn't even look at it! Then I came home and preceded to make 7 dozen of my famous homemade chocolate chip cookies. This is the FIRST time in history that I have EVER made chocolate chip cookies and NOT eaten the dough OR ANY cookies whatsoever! IN MY ENTIRE 25 YEAR EXISTENCE PEOPLE! I didn't even lick the blender of that delicious buttery sugary mix that's sure to cause diabetes.

I'm at 16 days of 30.

I can feel that my stomach has shrunk, like inside because I'm not nearly as hungry as I normally am. Yesterday I went for a 10 minute jog and about 20 minutes on the elliptical and then did about 15 minutes of core before I petered out and had to start my homework. I'm sore today, but it feels good. I can tell I'm loosing weight "all over" not just in one particular region of my body. So I'm going to keep it up. Looking forward to the end results.

I go through days where I think this is really a lot easier than I expected and I could probably make this a lifestyle if I allowed myself some wiggle room during social occasions and what not, then other days I feel like I'm going to cave and just order the burrito from Chipotle.

Then I remember I have my readers, and you're what holds me accountable in addition to myself. I can do this... Mind over matter.

3 Day Weekend Vacation and Engagement Party

It can be done, and I did it!

My eldest sister came to Cali to visit and Thursday night we drove up to our families house in Paradise, CA. I made it through the entire vacation AND co-hosted an Engagment Party and didn't cheat once!

Here's a breakdown of my meals:

Thursday Night: Sushi at Barracudas
I ordered a 6 piece Sake Sashimi and ate Edamame and pounded a few glasses of water

Friday AM: Sausage and Eggs
Friday Lunch: La Comida shredded chicken, shredded cheese, salsa, guacamole and a little sour cream and a Diet Pepsi
Friday Dinner: Steak and Edamame

Saturday AM: Sausage and Eggs
Saturday Lunch: Applebeese, ordered the jalapeno burger w/no bun and instead of fries, subsituted with brocoli. My mom and little sister even got the cookie sunday and I didn't eat ANY of it!
Saturday Dinner: Well... this was the party... so we made

3 dozen Chocolate covered strawberries (My sister was impressed I hadn't even licked the chocolate from my fingers!)
1 dozen shortbread chocolate dipped cookies
2 dozen cupcakes from Costco
1 Costco box of Orange Chicken
1 Costco box of Taquitos
1 Costco bag of Meatballs
1 Costco tray of Turkey wraps
Salad
Chips
Salsa
Sour Cream
Guacamole
Of all of that, I had 1 bite of half a meatball and my brother in law brought me my shredded chicken and cheese from La Comida again. I (may have) slammed a S/F redbull and then drove 3 1/2 hours home.

This was by far the hardest weekend because I was sooooo busy and because I was out of my regular element so being on a diet and planning your food is pretty intense. For snack I would grab a spoonful of peanut butter if I could feel myself getting a headache and didn't have time to make something more substantial.

Next goal to tackle, bake my office my famous chocolate chip cookies without eating any OR the cookie dough...

Week 1... Complete

Week 1 has been accomplished, and that really should be the worst of it! The hardest part is going to be going to my families and maintaining this diet next weekend. Let's face it, weekends are the hardest. You're at home... all day... bored, and what most of us do when we're bored, is eat. So last weekend felt a little weird.

#1 Thing I've leared this week:

Eat every 2-3 hours (EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT HUNGRY) and DO NOT skip a meal
When you get hungry, it's too late... your body shouldn't have to send you signals to feed it. If you start to feel yourself get hungry, you can just about guarantee a headache will accompany those stomach growls. Even if it's a little snack, grab it. If you think it's too late at night, eat something anyways. What you're eating is healthy protein, it's brain food, so it's better than waking up with a headache the next day.

My go to snack this weekend was a SB friendly variation of my favorite bruchetta:

Procuitto
Goat Cheese
S/F Apricot Jam (it tastes like diet soda the first time you drink diet soda... you know you'll get used to it eventually)

I wrap a little bit of the goat cheese and apricot jam into a piece of procuitto and it's a great little 2 bite snack.

#2 Piece of Advice:

You aren't going to necessarily notice your weight loss on a day to day basis... so you need to make sure you give yourself a little extra TLC for putting up with all of this. (I am NOT stepping on the scale again until week 4 Goal (maybe week 2, we'll see) because if you aren't loosing, you'll feel less motivated. Let it work behind the scenes) Make sure you do your hair and your makeup, dress up a little bit! It'll make you FEEL sexy until you hit your goal. No need to slum around in baggy sweaters hiding what you're trying to loose. Be aware of yourself, and know you're beautiful regardless.

1 Week down, 3 to go!

Advice #1

Stay away from Pinterest for the 30 days of this challenge... you should just add that to the list of things you can't have or do because there are so many amazing tempting pictures of food and desserts that will make your mouth salivate.
